For the third year in a row, Fota Island Resort is bringing a taste of the Majors to Cork with a themed series of events for golfers to enjoy over the course of the next three Majors competitions. Fota Island Resort will host Open Singles competitions on the Deerpark course in June, July and August, while menus inspired by the three tournament locations will be on offer in the Spike Bar, perfect for indulging in a little deliciously authentic après golf cooking, appropriate to each Major!
While the world’s best known golf professionals are hard at work at the iconic tournaments, golfers can try and emulate those sporting legends and enter Open Singles competitions at Fota Island Resort during all the Majors. Open Singles competitions run at Fota Island Resort to tie in with the US Open in Erin Hills, Wisconsin from June 15th-18th, from July 20th-23rd in line with the Open Championship in Royal Birkdale in Southport, and from August 10th-13th to link to the US PGA Championship in Quail Hollow, North Carolina.
The cost to enter each Open Singles competition is €50 per golfer and the overall winner with the highest score in the series of competitions will win an overnight stay at Fota Island Resort for two with a round of golf.
Once the day’s contest is done, continue the experience with a well-earned trip to the Spike Bar, where themed cooking specific to each Major contest will transport you to the Major of the moment!
In June, enjoy a traditional Wisconsin Beer Brat, a popular Wisconsin dish of Bratwurst simmered in beer with butter and onions. This particular dish features on the Erin Hills Club House menu itself, truly authentic!
In July, the selected dish celebrates the location of Royal Birkdale with a Scouse Stew, a traditional Merseyside beef stew made popular by sailors in nearby Liverpool.
In August, with the PGA Championship in full swing in North Carolina, Fota Island Resort will be serving the classic fisherman’s breakfast from the Carolina coast and a staple of Southern cuisine, Shrimp and Grits.
Experience the Majors at Fota Island Resort with Open Singles and authentic menus – no passport necessary!
Kevin Morris, Director of Golf, Fota Island Resort commenting on the series of events said: “We look forward to welcoming golfers back to celebrate the Majors with us at Fota Island Resort. The resort boasts three traditional yet challenging courses and outstanding unspoilt natural landscapes – the golfing experience we offer is simply unmatched in Ireland and the feedback on our Majors events in previous years has been really positive.”
