Cork South West TD, Margaret Murphy O’Mahony has said that the addition of Bandon to the list of Age-Friendly towns is great news for older people living in the town and surrounding hinterlands.
This new found status will ensure that funding is made available to a variety of local organisations to provide services for older people living in the town.
“A new Age Friendly Town Committee is set to be established soon, and I would urge anyone with an interest in joining the committee, and supporting the scheme, to get in touch with my constituency office, and I will put them in touch with the relevant council official.
“Active ageing has never been as important. More and more of us are living well into their 80s, and we need to ensure that our town can cater for them to ensure that services are facilities are in place to support them to live healthy and active lives.
“Following the success of this programme in Kinsale, I am confident that Bandon will rise to the challenge and made this new designation a triumph for the local community, and above all else, our older population.
“The work starts now, and I’ve no doubt that Bandon will make it a success,” concluded Murphy O’Mahony.
