At an event in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork today (Friday 10th March 2017) the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Des Cahill, launched the 2017 Lord Mayor’s Community & Voluntary Awards.
Held annually since 2004, the Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary Awards recognise voluntary and community groups across Cork for their invaluable contribution to life in the city. The awards are presented to one overall winner and to five category winners.
The Categories are: Arts, Culture and Recreation, Health & Well Being, Community Development, Social Services & Environment, Advocacy/Information/Guidance
Speaking at the launch Lord Mayor Cahill stated:
“People who devote their time and energy to these activities do so willingly and do not expect any reward. It is extremely important that the role they play in enhancing the quality of life of all our citizens is acknowledged. These awards are intended to go some way towards recognising this contribution”.
The closing date for nominations for the Lord Mayor’s Community & Voluntary Awards 2017 is Tuesday 28th March.
The Public is invited to nominate the groups they would like to see recognised for the good work in which they engage. Nomination forms may be obtained from the Community & Enterprise Section, City Hall and are available to download from http://www.corkcity.ie/communityawards/
