Labour Women are hosting a Public Meeting on Maternity Care in Cork and the future of gynaecological services for females in the Cork Region this Saturday at 2.30pm in The Imperial Hotel, South Mall, Cork.
Speakers will include
- Seán Sherlock TD – Labour TD Cork East and Party Spokesperson on Public Expenditure. Deputy Sherlock has served as a TD for 10 years and formerly was a Minister for Research & Innovation
- Prof Louise Kenny – A consultant obstetrician in CUMH. She was appointed a Professor of Obstetrics in UCC in 2009 where she has a special research interest in biomarkers for poor birth outcomes.
- Rebecca Hegarty – An activist with AIMS Ireland. AIMS Ireland (Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services Ireland) is a voluntary organization with charity status which was formed in 2007 by women who saw a need for a consumer-driven organization to support a woman’s human rights and her choices in childbirth, highlight healthy internationally recognized evidence-based birth practices, and to provide support and information to women accessing maternity services in Ireland.
- Dr Jo Murphy Lawless – A sociologist, lecturing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin since 2005. She is a published author and researcher. She has a wide variety of research interests including countering burnout in post-qualification midwives.
The meeting will be chaired by Kathleen Lynch, Labour Spokesperson on Disability & Mental Health.
