Workers’ Party Cork City Councillor Ted Tynan has welcomed the decision of Cork City Council management to introduce a 30 kilometre per hour speed limit on Boherboy Road, Mayfield. The restricted speed limit is to be put in place on foot of a motion tabled by Cllr. Tynan some time ago. He is hopeful that this speed limit will also extend into Silverspings Lawn and Silversprings Court.
Welcoming the move, Cllr. Tynan said it was recognition of the residential character of the area and of the excessive speed of cars using the road. The Mayfield councillor has said it is also very likely that the City Council will agree to install speed ramps along the Boherboy Road and on Silverheights Road / Upper Lotabeg Road.
Separately he has called for the provision of two bus stops on Silverheights Road/ Upper Lotabeg Road.
“This is a very long and steep stretch of road that serves hundreds of houses along this part of the No.8 bus service’s route yet there is no bus stop between the one opposite the Garda Station on the North Ring Road the top of Ashmount. Those returning to their homes at the top of the road often have to carry heavy shopping bags up this long and steep incline. This makes no sense as the bus passes their front doors I am delighted that Bus Éireann seems favourable to my suggestion and have agreed to investigate its feasibility.”, said Cllr. Tynan.
