The well known Cork property developer Owen O’Callaghan has passed away after a short illness.
Many of Mr O’Callaghan’s developments were in Cork City Centre.
During his career, Owen O’Callaghan was responsible for Cork’s largest retail and housing developments including Opera Lane, Half Moon Street, Mahon Point, Paul Street, Merchant’s Quay and North Main Street shopping centres. The developer was also a loyal supporter of numerous charitable causes in Cork and was also deeply involved in the arts.
This afternoon the Lord Mayor Cllr Des Cahill has issued a statement saying that the Council is “deeply saddened”
The Lord Mayor continues by saying: “On a personal note Owen O’Callaghan was a great Cork man and a very proud Cork man who transformed Cork and principally our thoughts are with his family. I express sincere condolences and sympathy on behalf of the people of Cork City to the family and friends of Owen O’Callaghan. He was a visionary who helped transform Cork City into a modern city with iconic developments such as Mahon Point and Opera Lane”
