Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire has echoed the warning issued by the HSE regarding the drug U-47700, currently circulating in Cork City. The Drug has been linked to the death of a young man in the Southside this week.
The Cork South Central TD said:
“This drug U44770 has been circulating in Cork City, and I understand that it is being sold and used as Cocaine.
“It is apparent that it is quite a dangerous and potentially lethal drug. While I would not at all encourage drug taking, if people do decide to take drugs, I would urge them to show great care and caution, particularly regarding this substance.
“It is not possible to be certain if what you are purchasing, is what you think it is. Drugs can be contaminated, and this is clearly extremely potent. I would urge people not to mix drugs or to mix drugs and alcohol, and to be particularly careful regarding dosage.
“There are numerous new synthetic forms of drugs being used now, and people working in addiction treatment have identified this as an increasing consideration in their work. Many of these substances are very potent and I would urge caution generally regarding these substances.”
