Fine Gael Cork Senator, Jerry Buttimer, has welcomed today’s announcement of a 7.2% increase in allocating resources to support the introduction of the new model for children with special educational needs.
“My Fine Gael colleague, the Minister for Education Richard Bruton, has confirmed to me that this increase in allocation will provide an additional 900 teachers. Up to 1,000 schools across the country will receive additional allocations under the new model.
“This is good news for students, teachers and parents. This announcement will hopefully signal an end to the constant struggle that left families and schools fighting to have the needs of students met.
“This additional allocation means that barriers to accessing resources will be removed and children who need support can have that support provided immediate.
“I believe that today’s announcement represents a significant milestone in the provision of education to these important young people.
“As a former teacher myself, I understand the significance of special needs children and this new model will deliver better outcomes, remove barriers and will provide a better education experience which they require and deserve.
“Fine Gael is determined to ensure children have high quality support when they need it.”
