“Were the people of Cork duped by a photo stunt for Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Simon Coveney TD?”
asks Cllr. Kenneth O’Flynn.
One year on and the Cork City Event Centre has not progressed Cllr Ken O’Flynn states “If BAM Heineken cannot get their act together perhaps it’s time that they move off the pitch”
“We are now one year on from the turning of the sod and besides a few JCB’s clearing some old buildings not much has changed on the Beamish and Crawford site.”
This piece of infrastructure is vital for the city and is long overdue. There is a feeling of frustration amongst the people of Cork and especially amongst publicans and those involved in the tourism trade.
I honestly believe this is a national scandal at this stage. It has gone beyond a local issue. O’Flynn states.
Cork City Council along with the government has committed a serious amount of money to the project. “I have been kept in the dark, this is unsatisfactory and shows nothing but contempt from BAM towards local politicians and the public money made available to them from the taxpayer”.
“It’s about time the government stepped in and started demanding answers or else moving ahead with someone who can deliver for the city and county”.
