Fine Gael Senator and leader of Seanad Éireann, Jerry Buttimer, has warmly welcomed the annual results of IDA Ireland for 2016.
The government agency announced the highest level of employment in its client companies in its 67 year history. Total employment at overseas companies now stands at 187,056 people, the highest level on record.
“The increase in the number of people working, the increase in investment is a powerful judgement on the role of IDA Ireland and in the approach taken by the Government.
“2016 has again shown significant level of investment in Ireland and especially in the Cork Region by FDI Companies. It is most encouraging that companies have confidence to locate in Ireland. Almost 200,000 people employed in IDA client companies is a sign that Ireland is a good place to locate and that Government policy of attracting investment is working outside Dublin.
“The increase by 9% (1,827) in south west is particularly encouraging. Fine Gael is committed to creating 200,000 jobs by 2020, including 135,000 outside Dublin. I strongly believe that Cork as a city must continue to be a regional counter balance to Dublin. “
