The Clonakilty (West Cork, Ireland) “Ringing in the New Year Ceremony” organised by the Clonakilty Mayoral Council takes place again this year at Asna Square. People are asked to assemble at Asna Square itself by 11.45pm this Saturday night (New Years Eve), where musician Colm Cronin will provide entertainment.
People attending are encouraged to bring along a lighted candle, torch or anything that will provide some light as a means of welcoming in 2017.
At 12.00 midnight the Mayor Anthony McDermott will lead the countdown to 2017 and the musical entertainment will continue for a further 15 – 20 minutes.
Mayor Anthony McDermott said:
“This has always been a lovely event and we welcome locals and visitors to the town to come along to ring in the New Year as a community. Families and those who may find themselves on their own on the night are particularly welcome to join us for about half an hour as we welcome in the 2017”.
The event is weather dependent and people should stay tuned to the local radio and check the Mayoral Council Facebook and Twitter pages if the forecast is changeable on the night.
