Garda forensic collision investigators have concluded their examinations at the scene of the crash and the M8 motorway has fully reopened to traffic.
Investigating Gardaí have confirmed that the man who died in the collision was 84 years of age. He lived in Castlelyons, Co Cork. His body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem examination will be held tomorrow. The driver of the News delivery van – aged in his 20s – is continuing to recover in hospital.
Today’s death brings to 20 the number of people to die on Co Cork roads so far this year (2016). This is eight more than in 2015.
