This morning in an intelligence led operation on the Northside of Cork City, Revenue officers carried out a series of searches under warrant of a number of private dwellings. Detector dog Harvey assisted in the searches, during which 10,000 unstamped cigarettes and 10 kilos of unstamped tobacco were seized along with 2 cars and €7,000 in cash. Two Irish males, one in his fifties and the other in his thirties, were questioned.
The seized tobacco products, including cigarettes branded ‘Jin Lin’, ‘Winston’ and ‘Marlboro Gold’ and tobacco branded ‘EastEnders’, have a retail value of €10,370 with a potential loss of Revenue of €8,100. A file is being prepared with a view to prosecution.
Amounts of cannabis were also found in two of the searches, which Gardaí from Gurranabraher and Watercourse Road are investigating.
The majority of people pay the right amount of tax and duty. If you know someone is evading tax or involved in smuggling, report it to Revenue.
