Cork South West TD, Margaret Murphy O’Mahony has extended her congratulations to the people of Clonakilty on being voted the best town in Ireland and the UK.
“Awarded by the Academy of Urbanism, this is a highly prestigious award, and pitted Clonakilty against some highly prominent towns such as Blackpool in England.”
“This is a fantastic achievement, and is testament to the strong community spirit in the town.”
“Clonakilty’s distinctive Georgian and Victorian heritage, allied to its beautiful coastal locations make it a stunning place to live and work.”
“Local businesses, and community groups, who have demonstrated resilience over the past decade in the face of significant socio-economic challenges, deserve an enormous amount of credit.”
“Defeating 40 other Irish and UK towns to scoop the top prize is no mean feat. There are significant opportunities for Clonakilty, and other West Cork towns and villages, to grow their commercial sector, providing well-paying jobs, and a great place to live and raise a family.”
