Fine Gael Cork Senator, Tim Lombard, has welcomed the announcement of Damian McDonald as the new Director General of the Irish Farmers Association.
“The appointment was made today following an appointment process overseen by KPMG, and a meeting of the IFA’s Executive Council.
“Damian McDonald is currently CEO of Horse Sport Ireland, the Governing Body for the sport horse sector in Ireland. Prior to this he was CEO of Macra na Feirme from 2001 to 2007.
“Mr McDonald, who will take up the role in the New Year, previously worked for the IFA from 1999 to 2001 in the position of Livestock Services Manager, where he worked in the areas of Direct Payments and Animal Health.
“I’m delighted to see someone with Mr McDonald’s experience take the reins at the IFA, after what has been a very difficult time for the organisation.
“There are many challenges facing farming families across Ireland and I wish Mr McDonald well as he seeks to face these in his new role.”
