Cork Airport has been highly commended at the global marketing awards for the aviation industry at the prestigious World Routes aviation forum in China. The gala event, which took place in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, recognises the very best in marketing new routes and route development in the global aviation industry.
Speaking after confirmation of the win, Kevin Cullinane, Head of Communications at Cork Airport said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been recognized for the second year in a row at these highly regarded awards. It is fantastic news for everyone who has worked so hard to market the airport in recent years to airlines and airports in an effort to secure new routes and secure traffic growth. We have had some great successes in the past 18 months with the addition of eight new routes and two new airlines to our schedule. We have also turned a corner this year as we’ve returned to passenger growth, which is expected to be eight per cent by year end.”
“Attracting new airlines to Cork Airport and increasing the range and depth of destinations served has been our number one objective and it is great to receive the acknowledgement of our peers in the aviation industry on such a global stage. We have always used the annual World Routes event as an opportunity to meet with prospective airline customers with the purpose of securing and developing new routes. This high profile recognition gives us an additional new calling card when inviting Airlines to meet”, he added.
Cork Airport was nominated in the highly competitive category of Airports serving under four million passengers and the award recognises outstanding achievement in marketing over the past year and confirms Cork Airport as one of Europe’s leading airports in aviation marketing and business development.
World Routes 2016 is one of the biggest gatherings in the aviation calendar and is currently being attended by over 3,000 key industry decision-makers, including 300 airlines and 700 airports.
