Cork is showcased in a stunning new video specially filmed for the Cork Midsummer Festival. With days to go to the start of Cork’s largest annual multi-disciplinary arts festival, (running June 17-19, 21 and 24-26), the team at RTÉ Cork produced a special video for this year’s event. Cork Midsummer Festival artists, friends and well-known Leeside faces came together to create an incredible montage of what they feel makes the city so special.
Cork Midsummer Festival Executive Director Lorraine Maye said: “This wonderful video really celebrates the beauty of Cork, and how much love people have for their city. Cork is wonderfully creative, with an abundance of imagination, humour and vision, and the Midsummer Festival looks to channel this talent every year through various events. We hope this video will inspire everyone across Cork, and the country, to travel to our great city for the Festival and to experience for themselves the incredible explosion of arts here. ”
The video was shot by video director at RTÉ, Jonathan Lambert, with music from Funzo and Alan Newman.
This year’s Cork Midsummer Festival programme includes 18 brand new works and is a fusion of opera, literature, theatre, dance, comedy, music and visual art. Family events, forums, talks and a wide choice of free events will also take place.
Highlights include songstress Camille O’Sullivan, and the hilarious Penny Arcade. The renowned Metta Theatre is also to stage a 21st century twist on Kipling’s classic tale The Jungle Book, complete with street dance, circus and rap.
