Sinn Féin TD, Pat Buckley, East Cork has said that he is delighted to be appointed as a Sinn Féin spokesperson on Mental Health today.
Speaking today Deputy Buckley said:
“It has been a dream of mine to be able to give voice to mental health ever since suicide knocked on my door on two occasions.
“With the joined up approach between myself and Deputy Mary Lou Mac Donald, who has also been given responsibility for the portfolio, I am confident that we will have a strong and cohesive team.
“I have always spoken my mind when it comes to mental health and dealing with the expansive amounts of issues that affect so many people on the island of Ireland.
“This will be a 32 County approach, and remember that suicide does not segregate on any class of society – there is no colour, creed, class or religion when it comes to suicide.
“It’s a great honour to be working with Team Sinn Féin and I hope that I will be a voice for those who cannot speak out. I can certainly assure you that as a team we will not let the people down.”
