Mind Over Miles will take place in Cork on Wednesday April 13th in The Atrium at Cork City Hall. This is a unique intimate evening of insight and inspiration from ordinary people doing extraordinary things in sport, sharing their stories of goals achieved. The event is presented by Joanne Murphy of Tri Talking Sport and Run Ireland. ‘Speaking about the event Joanne said, this is our 3rd event this year, we launched in Galway in January and following the success of that event brought it to Dublin in March, we are delighted to now host the event in Cork in association with the Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon. This event will appeal to a wide audience regardless of sporting ambition and the Cork edition promises to whet the appetite of anyone seeking to achieve their sporting, personal or business goals this year.’
Guests on the night include: 4 time Olympian, Multiple World, European and Irish Champion athlete Sonia O’Sullivan who will share some insight into her career as an athlete, goal setter and high achiever. As one of the shining lights and legends in Irish Sport, Sonia’s story of success and her journey through highs and lows of her career should no doubt inspire and motivate the audience no end.
Frank Greally, a legend of Irish running has been at the helm of Irish Runner Magazine for 35 years. The Mayo man who set a 10,000m Junior record of 30:17 in Morton Stadium in 1970 has held this record for 45 years. A former International runner, Frank was a member of the famous Irish Brigade Cross Country Team at East Tennessee State University from 1972-76 a team led by former Boston Marathon winner Neil Cusack. In his latest book, Running Full Circle, Frank detail his trials, tribulations and successes and will share his story on his return to running with our audience on the night.
Gerry Duffy, motivational speaker and best-selling author has completed some amazing sporting feats, including 32 Marathons in 32 days, Gerry also won the Deca Enduroman UK Challenge – his first outing at the gruelling challenge of completing 10 Ironman distance events in 10 days. Gerry will be signing copies of his new book ‘The Goal Getter’ at the event and will provide insight and inspiration for you to achieve your goals in 2016.
Proactive and RunIreland.com founder Ray O’Connor took up endurance running at the age of 30 and has completed 136 marathons to date, including two 100 mile events, the Marathon Des Sables, 24 hour running events and, on two occasions, the Brathay 10 Marathons in 10 Days Challenge. In 2010 Ray founded Marathon Club Ireland, of which he was recently elected Chairperson. In addition to being an avid runner, Ray is one of the busiest race directors in Ireland, hosting and directing many sporting events across the country.
There is something for everyone, whether you are looking to complete your first 5k run, or looking for a PB in your chosen discipline or distance. If you just want some inspiration, come and join us on the night: you will be inspired and motivated and you never know where it might lead you.
