Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada, from the Muskerry Gaeltacht in Co Cork, this week addressed a delegation of Cork IT Students in the European Parliament discussing the importance of being politically aware and making informed decisions on election day.
Speaking afterwards, Ms Ní Riada said,
“I was delighted to welcome the delegation of students to the parliament this morning. It is vitally important that students and young people are politically aware and can make informed choices about the representatives that will be making decision on their behalf.
“Forced emigration and youth unemployment is a direct result of failed government policies and last week Sinn Féin launched our charter for young people.
“In it we outlined how we would build an Ireland that serves our young people and graduates, an Ireland that makes them proud and an Ireland that will attract those who were forced to emigrate, to come home.
Ireland South MEP continued,
“The work I am involved in through my committees was an interesting topic of conversation, highlighting the importance of the Irish language in the Culture Committee. The activities on the Budget committee and how it directly impacts support and investment for SMEs, social enterprises in Ireland was discussed.
“It was a pleasure addressing the delegation and I would encourage as many young people to get involved in politics, whether it is local, national or European.”
