General Election Candidate in Cork South West Cllr Alan Coleman (Independent) has welcomed the news that two West Cork primary school students have reached a final of the ‘Doodle 4 Google’ competition.
The overall winner of the national competition will have their drawing or ‘Doodle’ appear on the Google.ie homepage on Easter Monday, March 28th.
Cllr Alan Coleman said:
“I, of course, will be seeking a vote of a different kind at the end of the month! in the General Election, but in this Google art competition everyone can vote regardless of age or location, and I encourage people to visit google.ie/doodle4google and support the West Cork students!”
Voting closes tonight (Sunday).
The two Cork entries which have reached this stage are from:-
Mia Buckley of Summercove National School in Kinsale, and Róisín Nolan Collins of Ballinadee National School.
Mia’s entry is entitled “Ireland is a land so green” (see below)
and
Róisín’s is “The myth and magic of Ireland” (see below)
Overall more than 4,000 students entered their proposed Google logos on the theme ‘Ireland is …’
The ultimate winner will receive a €5,000 scholarship towards their third-level education, a Chromebook, and a €10,000 technology grant for their school.
Members of the public have been voting since February 7th for their favourite Doodle on google.ie/doodle4google
Voting will close at midnight tonight (Sunday).
When votes are tabulated by Google after the weekend the five most popular doodles, one from each age category, will then go forward to the grand final, where the overall winner will be chosen by the Google Ireland team.
