Mercy University Hospital (MUH) Cork has introduced visiting restrictions at one ward in the hospital due to an outbreak of influenza.
St Mary’s Ward has been closed to all visitors until further notice in the interest of patient safety.
All other sections of the hospital are open but the hospital has appealed to members of the public only to visit when it is absolutely necessary and not to visit at all if they have had flu like symptoms in the previous four days.
The situation will be continuously reviewed.
People with flu-like symptoms are advised to telephone or visit their GPs, in the first instance, rather than presenting at the hospital’s Emergency Department.
The hospital wishes to thank the public for their cooperation with the restrictions.
