Irish water have confirmed that the substantial watermain contract (3,694m), tender evaluation and clarifications are now complete and the contract for Belgooly will be signed with the successful tenderer this week.
It is expected that the programme of works will be about 24 weeks, commencing in February and it is expected that they will be complete by August 2016.
Background
In December 2014, Irish Water commenced work on a 500m section of the watermain from Riverstick towards Belgooly, as an Advanced Works Contract, in conjunction with the influent pipeline to the Riverstick Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade project. These Advanced Works were completed in January 2015. A further section of watermain was laid in Riverstick Village in July 2015, in advance of a roads contract. An additional section of watermain was laid adjacent to the school in Belgooly in August 2015, in order to coincide with the summer holidays and avoid disruption to the school.
Political reaction
Welcoming the news West Cork TD Michael McCarthy (Labour) said:
“I am delighted that Irish Water took seriously my concerns and prioritised this work and I look forward to the completion of this work.”
