UCC is hosting Accounting and Finance Bootcamps for Transition Years and 6th year students~
Transition year students considering a career in accounting will be delighted to hear that University College Cork is running its hugely popular Accounting Bootcamps again this year on February 10th, 24th and 25th.
Organised by the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems, the event aims to give students an early insight into the BSc Accounting degree (CK202), before they make one of the biggest choices in their lives. They will gain first-hand experience of life at UCC and learn about the fantastic career opportunities that arise from this course.
The Accounting Bootcamps will give an insight into the daily life of an Accounting student; they will sit in on lectures, learn about the various modules that are taken, and hear all about college social life.
Attendees will also have the chance to pick the brains of students in their final year of study on the B.Sc. Accounting, who have recently completed work placements in a variety of organisations and sectors, and they will get a taste of the career options that are available to a B.Sc. Accounting graduate. Surveys show that 65% of graduates from the BSc Accounting go into full time employment, while 33% stay in further study or training
The Bootcamps will be based in the impressive surroundings of the Aula Maxima or the Council Room and students will also visit a Computer Laboratory for hands-on experience. Members of the very active Accounting and Finance Society will be on hand to talk about the UCC Experience, and refreshments will be provided.
Last year’s transition year students said that the day was “highly enjoyable and exciting” as it was aimed directly at them, they got to meet “actual” students, and they were able to gain first-hand experience before making a major decision about their future.
The Accounting Bootcamp is being run annually, and it is hoped that schools will incorporate it into their Transition Year schedule. There are only a limited number of places still available for this year so anyone interested is urged to get in touch with the department as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Students interested in the Accounting Bootcamps must register by calling 021 4902506. See www.ucc.ie/accfin for more details on these courses.
