Local Macra Notes
Aghada Community Centre was the place to be in Cork on Saturday in Macra circles for a great night’s entertainment.
Six well polished and laugh out loud performances were on show from various Macra clubs from around the country taking part in one of three FBD National Macra Capers Semi-Finals.
The Imokilly Macra region were our welcoming hosts. Each club’s Capers show is upto 20 minutes long and comprises a variety of singing, comedy, dancing and variety acts and sketches
Unfortunately only two teams could make it through to the finals and the judges must have had a very difficult decision to make with standards higher than ever.
Top honours (in no particular order) went to Whitechurch and Donoughmore Macra who will both progress. Other prizes on the night included best male: Eamon Quinlan, Whitechurch Macra, best female: Emily O’Donovan, Donoughmore Macra, best act: Ballinascarthy Macra, best director: Heather Healy, Donoughmore Macra.
The FBD National Macra Capers finals will be held in Mallow Youth Centre on February 6th. The final line-up includes: Whitechurch (Cork) and Donoughmore (Cork) qualifying from Aghada (Cork); Bree (Wexford) and Clonakilty (Cork) qualifying from Tullow (Carlow) and Banteer (Cork) and Enfield (Meath) qualifying from Trim (Meath). Carrigaline (Cork) will not be competing as their was among those knocked out on Saturday at a separate contest in Trim, Co Meath.
