More than 43 businesses from across the northside of Cork City have been nominated for the Northside For Business Awards. At the Northside for Business Awards event in the Kiln at Heineken Brewery Cork, businesses were shortlisted across a number of categories including Retail, Service, Hospitality, New Business, Established Business, Family Business and Social Economy Enterprise.
Speaking at the event Adrienne Rogers, Cork City LEO and Chair of the Northside For Business Steering Committee said, “We are absolutely delighted to see the extensive interest and nominations for the Northside For Business Awards. It is a new initiative developed to recognise the variety and quality of the businesses on the northside of Cork and the contribution that they make in the community and the economy here.”
Northside For Business was established in 2012 as part of the Northside Economic Development Group and aims to support the development and growth of enterprise and employment on the north side of Cork City.
“The Northside of Cork is home to arguably the biggest company in the world – Apple. However, it is also home to a significant number of small and medium enterprises along with some of the most well-known Cork companies such as Northside Glass, Cronin Coaches, Brackens Bakery, O’Flynn Sausages and ACME Blinds to name but a few. The Northside For Business Awards aim to recognise these incredibly important businesses and the vibrant, hardworking people behind each one,” said JJ O’Connell, Director, Plato and Northside For Business.
“It’s a celebration of all that the northside has to offer – the people, the work ethic and culture but most importantly the businesses,” he added.
“AIB is delighted to partner with the Northside For Business for the group’s first ever business awards. The Northside For Business organisation is a hugely valuable part of the business community in Cork and offers many opportunities to businesses to help them grow their operations,” said Sinead O’Connor, Branch Manager, AIB Blackpool. AIB are the main sponsor of the Northside For Business Awards.
The Award Ceremony will take place in the Ambassador Hotel on Thursday 28 January at 6pm. For more information, please see www.northsideforbusiness.ie
About Northside For Business:
In 2012, the Cork City Development Board approved a proposal to develop a northside economic development plan which it believed would contribute to the regeneration of the northside of the City. The Northside Economic Development Forum was set up to develop and drive this plan.
The Northside Economic Development Forum is representative of Cork City Council, Local Enterprise Office, Cork City, Cork City Partnership, Cork Chamber, Department of Social Protection, HSE, PLATO , The Revenue Commissioners, RAPID and the Educational Training Board.
Northside for Business is part of the Northside Economic Development Forum’s ‘Growing more than Apples’ initiative. By working together the stakeholders aim to develop practical initiatives, with tangible outcomes, that support the regeneration of the 3 RAPID areas on the Northside.
