Next Wednesday (13 January), Lidl Ireland and Bia Food Initiative will launch a structured food donation programme for Cork city and county. Every day, surplus food will be donated from participating Lidl stores in Cork and its Regional Distribution Centre in Charleville and redirected to over 55 charities working with those affected by food poverty.
Lidl is providing a refrigerated van to transport the food with Bia Food Initiative manning the service through their volunteers. It’s the first of its kind in Munster and an extension of the programme that Lidl already runs with Crosscare in Dublin.
More details about the initiative to be announced next week.
