The Irish Medical Devices Association (IMDA), the Ibec group that represents the medical technology sector, announced Stryker Ireland as the Silver Award winners for Company of the Year at the Irish Medical Technology Industry Awards, jointly hosted with Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland, in the Clontarf Castle Hotel.
In recent years, Stryker has expanded its R&D capability across multiple business segments at several of its facilities in Cork and Limerick, Ireland. In 2015, Stryker constructed a uniquely designed surgical innovation centre in Cork. The state of the art centre, which features unique design workspaces and a customer experience laboratory, will focus on the development of new technologies and procedural solutions across multiple specialties. A simulated operating room environment will enable collaboration with surgeons on the development and evaluation of new surgical approaches, product concepts and complete procedural solutions.
“Our team in Ireland has built considerable R&D capability to serve multiple market segments and has established a 17 year track record in the development and launch of new products,” said Spencer Stiles, President of Stryker’s Instruments division. “We are honoured to win this award, which comes at an exciting time as we expand our global R&D footprint, and our ability to engage our European customers as we drive global growth.”
Director of the IMDA Sinead Keogh said: “It’s been nearly a decade since we launched the awards and in that time the sector has prospered with the number of companies in Ireland rising to over 400 this year. Since the beginning of 2014, over 2,000 jobs have been announced in the sector. It’s vital that strategic sectors which drive regional growth are supported: tonight’s winners Abbott Diagnostic Longford, AventaMed in Cork and the University of Limerick highlight regional successes.”
