Cork Chamber has called on the people of Cork to support local businesses in the run up to Christmas.
Speaking at the switch-on of the Christmas lights last evening in the City Centre, Conor Healy, Chief Executive of Cork Chamber said, “Cork’s Christmas lights cast a festive glow over the city and really create an exciting atmosphere for both locals and visitors to enjoy during the holiday season. This Christmas, I encourage the people of Cork to visit the city, soak up the wonderful atmosphere, and avail of the great value and choice offered by our local businesses for Christmas shopping.”
“Christmas marks the most important time in the retail calendar which creates jobs and retains money in the local economy. In the past year we have seen many more shops and restaurants open around the city. By shopping local we will support the survival and growth of these businesses, facilitate the establishment of more local shops, and ensure a thriving Cork city centre. For those who prefer to do their Christmas shopping online, it is important to remember that you can still shop local as many of our businesses also have online stores providing attractive offers.”
“There are many reasons to celebrate this week with the Cork City Purple Flag Award being launched on Friday November 20th. The award, which recognises our city centre as a vibrant, entertaining and well managed city centre location, will further highlight Cork City centre as a ‘must visit’ location to domestic and international visitors not only for Christmas, but also the rest of the year.”
Mr. Healy concluded, “Shoppers and visitors should take advantage of the significant parking available in the city centre and in particular make themselves aware of the very welcome real-time parking information screens and online updates which have been put in place to further improve the shopping experience in Cork this Christmas.”
