Today, Friday October 23rd, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival gets underway in Cork city and runs through to Monday 26th October. Tens of thousands of people are descending on Cork city from all over the world to enjoy the popular Jazz festival, featuring over 400 music sessions in over 60 pubs, theatres, clubs and hotels venues in Cork city.
This evening, an exclusive opening party will take place at The Metropole Hotel, guaranteed to kick-start the Guinness Cork Jazz Bank Holiday Weekend festival fun. The smooth sounds of the Clare Sands Band will be live at the event and numerous influencers, including some from the worlds of sports and music will attend.
Renowned as one of the best jazz festivals in Europe, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival continues to grow bigger and better year-on-year with this year’s line-up including an eclectic mix of artists including The Coronas, Gary Numan, The Drifters, The Darius Brubeck Quartet and Marcus Miller.
Now in its 37th year, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival has attracted some of the biggest names in jazz to Cork over the years, including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and many more.

The pubs across Cork city play an important role in the festival, with a top notch line-up planned for the Guinness Music Xtra Trail. Acts including The Pearly Whites, The Busquitos, Divine Intervention, Blues Brothers Banned and The Jabronis will play in pubs throughout the city over the bank holiday weekend.
Back by popular demand, the Jazz Fringe will feature free attractions all over the city including a Food Market, Open Air Jam Sessions and Street Bands. Over the weekend, four of Europe’s top Street Bands will perform on the main thoroughfares including the Lamarotte Jazz Band and OhNo Jazz from Holland, 38 Tonnes from France and New York Brass Band from the UK.
For the budding enthusiasts, the state of the art Cork School of Music will play host to Jazz Camp during the festival featuring workshops and master classes presented by many of the stars of the festival.
