This October the annual Beer and Food Festival returns to The White Horse in Ballincollig, October 15th – 18th.
The White Horse in Ballincollig is hosting a festival weekend filled with craft beer and artisan food, with some livelytunes from of Ireland’s favourite musicians. With twelve events running from the 15th to 18th October, there will be plenty of treats in store to suit all tastes.
Thursday 15th October will see American folk singer-songwriter and pianist Krista Detor perform Upstairs @ The White Horse. The Indiana native has shared stages with stars such as Joan Armatrading and Luka Bloom, and her music has been featured at the Cannes Film Festival. Just one of her three Irish dates on her European tour, Detor will be taking to the stage with Cork based upcoming songstress, Ciara Walton, who recently released her debut EP, Shadow Song. This gig is not to be missed, with tickets priced at €15! The White Horse will also be hosting their brand new drinks menu in conjunction with Detor’s gig, officially opening the festival at 7.30pm.
Ballymaloe trained cook and founder of Green Saffron Spices, Arun Kapil will host a curry demonstration on Friday 16th October, followed by a 3 course tasting menu. Each dish will be paired with a sample beer by Scott Baigent from 8 Degrees Brewing- one of Cork’s finest breweries. Tickets for the Beer & Curry Night are priced at €20. To complete this Cork themed event, Cork’s own Two Time Polka will take to the stage in The Kasbah from 10 pm.
The White Horse will hold the festival’s bumper day on Saturday 17th October with The Niall McCabe Band performing in The Kasbah, while the Neil Young Tribute Night with Crazy Chester takes place Upstairs @ The White Horse. A Beer & Steak Night will take place too, with The White Horse’s Head Chef Mark Tobin demonstrating how to cook the perfect steak, including tips on marbling and seasoning. Each guest will then be served up a delicious rib-eye cooked to their liking, while brewer Fiona Savage will pair the dish with a beer by Metalman Brewing Company. Tickets for this event are €25 each.
Last but by no means least, The White Horse Brewing Club will be launched on Sunday 18th October, with a Brew Your Own home brew demo by John Mangan and Garry O’Mahoney ofNational Homebrew Club. At 6 pm, there will be a German themed BBQ in The Kasbah, with a live performance by The White Horse Guitar Club, purveyors of the finest Americana – good time music fused with Irish vibes! Renowned accordion player Dermot Byrne’s show will close the festival, and he will be joined Upstairs by Steve Cooney and Trevor Hutchinson.
Dotted throughout the weekend, The White Horse will offer regular beer sampling opportunities to showcase the best of Irish craft beer companies and Bavarian pretzels for your tasting pleasure!
