International soprano Cara O’Sullivan, accompanied by the Band of An Garada Siochana, is the star attraction at the Marymount University Hospital and Hospice Concert at Cork Opera House on Saturday, October 17.
This concert coincides with the Marymount University Hospital and Hospice first International Conference on Palliative Care and Care of the Older Person, which takes place from October 15 to 17.
The concert, organised by Marymount University Hospital and Hospice, in association with The Friends of Marymount, will bring together the staff, Friends of Marymount, volunteers, conference delegates and the people of Cork to celebrate 15 years of Marymount. It will also mark the conclusion of the three-day International Conference on Palliative Care and Care of the Older Person.
The concert performers includes Cork’s best-known international soprano Cara O’Sullivan, who has performed throughout Europe, the United States, and Australia and The Band of An Garda Siochana. Sports broadcaster Ger Canning is the compere for the evening of great music.
Dan Cowman, chairman of The Friends of Marymount said: Marymount is synonymous with the provision of care for people with life-limiting conditions. Fundraising at Marymount is required to raise €2 million annually just to maintain current services. A dedicated team of 34 volunteers (The Friends of Marymount) must be credited with the fantastic work they do to achieve this fundraising target each year. They are a real credit to the Hospice.”
