Repairs have been completed on the submarine telecommunications cable to Sherkin Island following his representations to senior management in Eircom.
This has been a challenging task for Eircom and their contractors waiting for the right combination of weather tides and wind to restore a full capacity service to all the islanders.
Deputy Noel Harrington (Fine Gael) is “well aware that this is a vital link to all the islanders and also the weather station on the Island which provides such vital information on the Atlantic weather conditions in assisting Met Eireann in forecasting the weather”.
Harrington continued “There are many more challenges for those living on our off shore islands and with the full restoration of this service it means that at least one aspect of their lives is the same as everyone on the mainland.”
