Cork Opera House are delighted to announce that the talented artist,
will be joining a host of Cork’s best and brightest talent on the
stage to celebration 160 years of Cork Opera House.
A 14 year old Cork violinist will help with Cork Opera House celebrate
their 160th birthday.
Kevin Jansson has a CV that impresses:
Has won multiple competitions at both Feis Maitiú and Feis Ceoil.
This year he won the Unaccompanied Solo Bach and Under 17 Solo Violin
competitions in Cork, and the St Cecilia Cup for Under 17 String
Repertoire and Violin Solo Under 15 in Dublin. In December 2014 he
won the CIT Cork School of Music Junior Concerto competition playing
the Bruch Violin Concerto.
Kevin has been a member of the Junior Cork Youth Orchestra (leader)
and Cork Youth Orchestra and is also a member of the CSM Senior
orchestra. In 2012 he became the youngest member ever of the National
Youth Orchestra of Ireland.
He is leader of the Accelerando String Quartet under the tutorship of
Adrian Petcu and with whom he has attended the ConCorda Chamber Music
Course. He has attended masterclasses with Constantin Serban, Remus
Azoitei and Gernot Winischhofer in Romania and Paul Roczek at the
Mozarteum in Salzburg. He is an all-Ireland Winner at Fleadh Cheoil
achieving first place in Fiddle Slow Airs in 2014.
Last month Kevin won the biennial National Concert Hall Young
Musician’s Award for String Players. In the same month he was also
invited to play as a soloist with the Cork Youth Orchestra in their
very successful Night at the Proms Concert at the City Hall.
Speaking about his upcoming performance at the Oper House Birthday
Gala, Kevin Jansson said “I’m really looking forward to playing in the
Cork Opera House for the first time. It’s a great honour to have been
invited to take part in such an important event in the cultural life
of Cork City.”
Kevin will join a star-studded list of home-grown talent on the
evening, including RTE Concert Orchestra, conducted by Cork’s own John
O’Brien. Fiona Shaw, Cara O’Sullivan, Iarla Ó lionáird, Jimmy McCarthy
and Billa O’Connell. Cork City Ballet presents prima ballerina Erina
Takahashi. The audience on the evening will also be treated to a
performance by Alan Kenefick and Prodijig (Winners of 2012 Got To
Dance). The night will be hosted by Frank Mackey.
Guests will be welcomed at this black tie event from 6.30pm for a
drinks reception before the performance. Some tickets are still
