Sinn Féin TD for Cork East has welcomed confirmation that Youghal is included as a destination in the Ireland’s Ancient East initiative.
The confirmation was made by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in a response to a Parliamentary Question submitted by Deputy McLellan.
She said;
“I am glad that we now have confirmation that Youghal,as a heritage town, is included in the ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’ initiative. There was a great deal of confusion and it is good that this has been cleared up.
“It is vital that Youghal is at the centre of what will be an important campaign to motivate people to visit the East of our country.
“Youghal is a heritage town. It is a town of historical significance with a great deal to offer visitors in terms of cultural, architectural and natural attractions.
“While I am sure that the town will receive a great boost from its association with the ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’ initiative it also needs to be said that the campaign will be greatly enhanced by having Youghal amongst the listed destinations.”
