Billa O’Connell and David McInerney have been presented with Cork Person of
the Month awards to mark their careers in entertainment, which stretch back
to the 1940’s.
“They have been exemplary national ambassadors for Cork through comedy and
song for nearly seventy years, and are held in very high esteem and
affection by generations of Corkonians” said Manus O’Callaghan, Awards
Organiser.
Freeman of Cork Billa O’Connell and acclaimed baritone David McInerney have
been involved in professional and amateur theatre, from pantomime to opera,
musicals to drama, concerts to radio & TV., comedy to recordings and
starring in such iconic series of the past, like Up Cork, Summer Revels and
The Swans. Who will ever forget, their magic performances, in what is
considered the best Late Late Show ever, back in 1982 ( still available to

Billa and David’s names, now go forward, with the other Persons of Month
chosen this year, for possible selection as Cork Persons of the Year, at a
Gala Awards Lunch on Jan 15th next.
