Youth Work Ireland Cork’s Rappers, RuffKulture, are launching their first album on Saturday, 23rd May in Camden Palace at 2pm
This a group of teenage rappers, singers and musicians based up at “The Hut” in Gurranabraher (Youth Work Ireland Cork). The rap workshops were featured on RTE’s The Secret Millionaire over a year ago. Warren Logan the, secret millionaire recognized the positive impact being involved in music had on the young peoples’ lives and was very impressed with the workshops facilitated by Garry McCarthy (GMCBeats). His generous contribution towards this worthwhile project allowed for extra workshops, which led to the making of an album.
The extra workshops are facilitated by Garry McCarthy (GMCBeats), Rory McGovern & Ophelia McCabe. Lately they have been busy recording the album tracks up at the BeatBox StudioKabin in Knocknaheeny (a space provided by Music Generation Cork City). Music Generation Cork also supports the Music project.
The Rappers have featured on RTE’s Elev8, performed at the Music Generation Concert Party at the Opera House, LiveStyles Youth Hip Hop Festival in Cork and The Make A Move Festival in Limerick.
Expect to hear a lot of local hip hop talent from around Cork City along with the RuffKulture crew, as well as a HUGE rap cypher (uninterrupted session whereby rappers show off their skills and pass the mic onto the next). Other acts include; Trigger (A past member of the rap workshops in Gurranabraher who has gone on to release his own videos and album independently); ApocalypseE; MataMatik/The Street Poet; Bubba Shakespeare and the Urban Hippies; Garry McCarthy = GMCBeats and the Hut Junior Rap Crew.
There will also be a Rap Cypher (recorded) on the day. So to be part of possibly the biggest cyper the city has ever seen all you got to do is to come along with your best 16 bars and show off your skills.
