Ireland South MEP and member of the EU Tourism Taskforce, Deirdre Clune, has welcomed a decision by Tourism Ireland to co-fund a campaign to market Cork in Cardiff, in advance of the beginning of the new Cork- Cardiff air route in June, 2015.
“Representatives from Tourism Ireland have been in touch after I contacted the CEO of Tourism Ireland Niall Gibbons. I had asked that they would begin to market Cork in Cardiff. They have committed to a joint marketing campaign with Flybe airlines in Cardiff to promote Cork as a destination.
“There is little point in having a flight into and out of Cork from Cardiff if we don’t promote it as much as we can. We can encourage Welsh visitors to spend the weekend in Cork and sample everything that we have to offer. I have made contact with the Mayor of Cardiff to see what common ground we can find in promoting both our cities to our mutual benefit.
“Cork has a great deal to offer and we are open for business when it comes to tourism. I will be engaging with Tourism Ireland over the coming months to ensure that we can promote Cork as much as possible in advance of the new Cardiff route in June.
