Coughlan’s is a small intimate venue that is available to musicians to put on concerts/gigs in an effort to promote both new and already established acts from the city and further a field. As many of Cork’s smaller venues have unfortunately had to close their doors, the pub aimed “to recreate a ‘listening room’ and perhaps (dare we say it!) even bring back some of the magic from the days of places like ‘The Lobby’!”
Coughlan’s has a capacity of 65 people seated (or approx 80 if standing). Special care has been taken to ensure an enjoyable experience for both the audience and the listener. Quality of sound, a comfortable performance space, ‘greenroom’ and most importantly ‘the personal touch’ are some of the things the owners have really concentrated on.
The pub hosts a music free session every Monday where some of Cork’s finest musicians gather playing many styles of music and all are welcome to join in.
The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) is delighted to announce the shortlist for the seventh annual IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year Awards. The awards recognise the Irish venues which deliver the very best standards in live music entertainment. Hundreds of venues across Ireland qualified for the awards and more than 10,000 IMRO members were asked to vote for their top choices in an online poll. Venues have been judged on their ambience, staging, sound and lighting facilities, the diversity of their music programming, the staff and management at each venue and the work they undertake in promoting the venue and its programme of music events.
Along with one overall award for National Live Music Venue of the Year, awards will be presented to the leading live music venues in the following regions: Dublin, Leinster (excluding Dublin) Connacht, Munster and Ulster (covering Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan). In addition to this IMRO members have been nominating their top music festival choices and one Irish music festival will receive the IMRO Music Festival of the Year award.
IMRO are now offering the public the chance to have their voice heard in the 2014 honours roll. The shortlist for for the Overall IMRO Live Music Venue of The Year Award is drawn up from the IMRO member’s poll and music lovers across Ireland are invited to nominate their favourite Irish venue from the list below.
One lucky voter will be chosen at random to receive a prize of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.
