Gardaí at Midleton Co Cork are investigating a violent disorder incident which occurred shortly after midnight onMonday (15th December 2014)
A Garda patrol unit had stopped a car at Drishane More when a number of people in the car attacked the two male Garda members. One Garda received a serious head and eye injury during this incident and was conveyed to Cork University Hospital where he is still detained. Another Garda member received a less serious injury. The Garda patrol car was also rammed.
The offending vehicle then left the scene and drove off in the direction of Youghal. At Mount Uniacke Village this vehicle rammed another Garda patrol car and continued in the direction of Dungourney. Gardaí went to an address at Ballymartin, Dungourney and following another violent disorder incident where a number of Gardaí came under attack five people were arrested (Four men 18yrs, 22yrs, 35yrs and 46 yrs and a 27 year old female) All five were taken to Midleton, Cobh and Fermoy Garda Stations.
A number of weapons, a car and cash have been seized.
All five arrested persons are expected to appear before Mallow District Court this morning (Tuesday 16th December 2014) charged in connection with these incidents.
