Many Cork people, do not like the exterior of Merchants Quay in Cork. It is a fine shopping centre, an indoor mall but is a “celebration of redbrick” outside.
Until now you could only appreciate it’s exterior on Google Streetview, but now the interior is also available.
Today, Google’s Indoor Maps are coming to Ireland for the first time, helping people find their way around iconic sites like the Guinness Storehouse and the National Museum, as well as local favourites including shopping centres, airports, stadiums, train stations and universities across the country, right from their phone. With indoor Google Maps, visitors can spend less time searching for building directories and more time discovering new points of interest.
The interactive map tool is available in the Google Maps app on Android and iOS, as well as on desktop and is available for more than 40 locations in Ireland.
With Indoor Maps, you can:
- Identify specific shops, cash machines and bathrooms within shopping centres, including Ireland’s largest shopping space, the Merchants Quay Shopping Centre, Blackpool Shopping Centre, and Wilton Shopping Centre
- Step inside and explore inspirational museums such as the National Museum or the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, uncovering floor by floor with minimal fuss
To go inside with Indoor Maps, simply zoom into Maps until you start to see an indoor floor plan of the building, and use the floor picker to move from the ground floor to other available floors in the building.
In Cork three buildings are now accessible using Google Streetview
