This years Lord Mayor of Cork has performed the historic annual Throwing of
the Dart ceremony.
The tradition dates back to the year 1759 and beyond and involved the First
Citizen traveling to the Roches Point Boundary
of Cork Harbour to mark their symbolic position as “Admiral of the
Harbour”, and symbolise the City’s Control over the port
Over the weekend Lord Mayor Cllr Mary Shields continued the tradition
aboard the irish Naval Services newest vessel; L.E. Samuel Beckett.
