All practicing Doctors will be have to have full insurance under a new bill
being backed by a Cork Senator.
At the moment there is no requirement for medical practitioners to have
adequate indemnity insurance cover; meaning that a patient might not
compensated in the event of malpractice.
The Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has now published the Medical
Practitioners Amendment Bill 2014
Cork Senator Colm Burke is Fine Gael’s spokesman on Heath in the Seanad and
says it was cases of bad plastic surgery that highlighted the need for
mandatory insurance in recent years
