The Mayor of County Cork is calling on the Government to increase
funding for suicide support services.
Fianna Fail Cllr Alan Coleman wants the Fine Gael-Labour Coalition to
accept that Cork has a problem.
A report published this week reveals that Cork has the highest level
of suicide in the country.
The stark statistic is of 17-point-6 occurrences per 100,000 of the population,
which is 4 additional suicides per 100,000 above the national average.
Mayor Coleman welcomes the fact that an open debate can be had on
suicide which is no longer a taboo issue,
but says voluntary organisations need to be supported more
