The annual Cork City Marathon takes place this morning.
Around 7,500 will take part, and twice that number, 15-thousand are expected to line the route to cheer on the entrants.
There is a full marathon, half marathon, Team relay, and youth section and action gets underway at 9am
The route passes through the Jack Lynch tunnel and traffic restrictions are in place across the City. City Hall organise the event in partnership with Athletics Ireland, and the Cork Business Houses Athletics Association.
Also involved are the Gardai, Cork Education and Training Board, City Fire Service, Civil Defence, First Aid and Medical bodies
Chief Medical Officer for the Marathon is Dr Jason van der Velde
Dr Jason van der Velde says the medical tents are extremely well equipped, so most people needing attention could be taken care of “on site” save them the hassle of travelling to Hospital, and taking pressure off the Emergency Department
