There were articles galore and it was the talk of the town; The Shandon
Clock was stuck/broken for months.
€40,000 was needed, and the cash strapped City Council said the 2014 budget
was spoken for. But following media pressure money was somehow found!
Cork City Council wishes to confirm that it will put finance in place to
repair the Shandon Clock.
Following on from a tender process undertaken by the Council, the Council
is about to award a contract for repair to the iconic symbol known
world-wide.
The Finance department of the Council has managed to ring-fence funding in
accordance with the best tender price for repair to ensure the clock is
restored to its former glory.
Lord Mayor, Cllr. Catherine Clancy welcomed the resolution to an issue
which had concerned her greatly over the past few weeks.
The Lord Mayor stated “Now that the commitment to repair the clock has been
secured, I look forward to this jewel in Cork’s crown being brought back to
working order, and the Shandon Clock will soon be telling us all the time
again”.
