A Church child protection watchdog has recommended that an East Cork
diocese rocked in the past by abuse allegations set up a special
whistle-blowers policy.
The National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in
Ireland has released a 42 page report looking at the Diocese of Cloyne
and how new strict guidelines are being implemented. A similar
document has also been released for the Archdiocese of Dublin.
The Cloyne review is generally complimentary about the new culture and
practices in the diocese, saying most standards are now being “fully
met”.
It makes eight recommendations. One calls for a specific “whistle
blowing policy” be adopted.
