The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan was in
Skibbereen, West Cork this afternoon to view construction works on the new
building for the West Cork Arts Centre, due to open in 2 months time.
Established 20 years ago the WCAC has outgrown it’s current rented space on
the ground floor of the VEC building in Skibbereen.
The Department for Arts are providing grant aid of 1-point-5 million euro
and Cork County Council are co-funding the new building.
When completed, the new centre will have two large galleries; a work space
classes and workshops; three artist studios; and a performance space
intended for dance, ballet, film screenings and public talks.
Mayor of County Cork Noel O’Connor was in Skibbereen this afternoon to meet
the Minister and inspect the construction works
