A Former Lord Mayor of Cork is making preparations to fly to he UK to take part in the official visit of President Michael D. Higgins to Britain.
Labour Cllr Michael O’Connell was Lord Mayor of Cork when Queen Elizabeth visited Ireland in 2011.
Now, Cllr O’Connell will head in the other direction where he will represent Cork as a Deputy Lord Mayor on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday Cllr O’Connell will attend the Royal Albert Hall, and on Friday he will travel to Coventry which is twinned with Cork.
Cllr O’Connell’s invitation for Thursday night specifies “Lounge suit” as the dress code Speaking to TheCork.ie the former Lord Mayor joked he might need to get a new suit this week.
