There are calls for more Garda FOOT PATROLS in Cork City Centre.
It follows the daytime assault of a man on Winthrop Street over the weekend.
The victim – understood to be in his 30s – was assaulted by a group of
youths around 4.30 on Saturday afternoon on the pedestrianised Street just
metres away from the GPO.
He was taken by ambulance to CUH where his injuries were described non-life
threatening.
Gardai arrested two youths later on Saturday for alleged assault and they
were taken to the Bridewell Station for questioning.
TheCork.ie has been speaking with Billy macGill. Mr macGill is running as a
Fine Gael local election candidate, and also has a photography business on
Winthrop Street. He says CCTV might be good, but a VISIBLE Garda presence
is needed at weekends as a deterrent to youth violence
